Frequently asked questions
Clear answers before the engagement starts.
These answers cover the most common questions about fit, pricing, security, and scope.
Ask about your situationWho is the practice a good fit for?
The practice is designed for individuals, families, professionals, owners, and closely held businesses that value direct CPA involvement, organized communication, and a clearly defined engagement. Fit and availability are confirmed before work begins.
Do you work only with clients in The Woodlands?
No. The practice is based in The Woodlands and serves the Greater Houston area, while many tax engagements can be completed electronically for clients elsewhere. State filing needs and other facts are reviewed before accepting an engagement.
How are fees determined?
Fees are based on the complexity and scope of the engagement, with pricing agreed upon before work begins. Changes in scope are discussed before additional work is performed.
Will I work directly with John?
Yes. Questions go to the CPA responsible for the engagement, keeping preparation, judgment, and follow-up connected to the same person.
How are documents and signatures handled?
After an engagement is accepted, documents and signatures are exchanged electronically through secure systems. Do not send Social Security numbers, tax documents, bank information, or other sensitive data through a basic website inquiry or ordinary email.
Do you prepare extensions and estimated taxes?
Yes, when included in the agreed scope. Extension preparation, quarterly estimated-tax analysis, and related planning are available as part of appropriate tax engagements.
Does return preparation include year-round planning?
Not automatically. Estimates, projections, and planning are provided when they are included in the engagement. The scope is agreed before that work begins.
Can you help with an IRS or state notice?
John reviews selected notices, penalty-abatement matters, and straightforward compliance correspondence. Complex audits, collections, litigation, or legal disputes may require another specialist, and that will be made clear after an initial review.
Do you provide legal, investment, or audit services?
No. The practice does not provide legal advice, investment advice, audits, reviews, compilations, or other attest services. When another professional is needed, the tax work can be coordinated with that advisor where appropriate.
What should I send with my first inquiry?
The service needed, relevant tax year, states involved, any known deadline, and a short non-confidential description are usually enough. Sensitive documents can wait until a secure process is established.
